7-year-old boy, man shot inside home on Chicago’s South Far Side

CHICAGO (CBS) —  A child was among two people shot in a home in the West Pullman neighborhood Monday night.
Chicago police said the 7-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were inside the home, in the 1600 block of South Yale Avenue, when someone in a white Audi sedan fired shots into the home.
The child was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back and a graze wound to the head. The man is also in critical condition at Christ Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and arm.
Rosie Liggins said it was her son and grandson who were shot and that her son, the 27-year-old victim, was arriving home while other relatives were inside waiting to start off a night of pizza and movies. The 7-year-old boy was standing in the dining room when he was struck.
She showed CBS News Chicago nine bullet holes left in her home after the shooting. Liggins recalled the terrifying moment when she had to attend to both her son and grandson.
“I didn’t know what to do,” Liggins said. “It was like, I’m trying to go here. I’m trying to deal with him. My grandson is on the floor. He’s bleeding out and all he’s doing is looking up at me, calling for me, reaching for me saying, ‘Grandma. I’m shot.’ I told him, I said, ‘Baby, it’s going to be OK.’ My son is out here. He’s on the ground. He [said], ‘Mama. Don’t leave me. I’m shot in my chest. I hurt. I can’t breathe.’ It was a lot.”
The family said they believe they were targeted. Police are investigating the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
